This grenade was thrown and the tail would open up. I think it was good for about 30yds.

What's the purpose of the tail? Seems you would get more range without it, but then again those nerf footballs with the tail sure do fly well.

Time for P-D to give an aerodynamics lesson. My guess is they provided a bit of lift and enabled the thing to sail a bit farther.

I thought the tail was to ensure that the shaped charge struck at the right angle? So, stability?

There were 4 fins on it. Presumably to guide it head on to the target. I guess some of these toys ya see out there (nerf ft.ball,lawn darts) got the idea from some strange places.

Well you guys got it Tom and Horch. I did a search for it and the fins are to make the device land directly 90 degrees against it's target. It never was very successful. Interestingly it was developed for use by Luftwaffe infantry.

They weren't airborne qualified, but their AT weapons were!!
