Re: Is this the right forum? Oh and howdy.
Well now, since you linked tomahawks to WWII sure this is the right spot.
I have personally never heard of their use in WWII, but you learn something new about old wars everyday. By the way, love the moniker!

There's reports of soldiers takin' private owned knifes into the field so I wouldn't be surprised is some did take a Tomahawk with 'em.

Well, found a pic, some discussion says its from a mosquito aircraft for escape purposes. Not quite what I am searching for as far as a combat weapon. Although I would probably take that with me after I got out of the wreck.

Looks like an escape tool, but depending on size and heft could also have doubled as a hell of a close quarters, silent weapon.
If so and behind enemy lines, I'd hang on to it as well.

Hey, you won't be able to separate a Finn from his trusty knife...

Re: Is this the right forum? Oh and howdy.
I have in my collection a silver plated Tomahawk given to a member of the 2nd Infantry Division for service on D-day.
And, there were plenty of wild weapons carried by the allies in WWII. Here's a few off the top of my head: The Woodmans Pal: Primarily designed for chopping down brush, this was a standard issue survival knife for some aircrewmen in the Pacific. Not a tomahawk, but I sure wouldn't want to go up against one in hand to hand combat. Still sold today, too. USMC Corpsman Knife. Primarily designed as a brush cutter to make litters, this thing was heavy and nasty. More like a bolo than anything else. Those are the two that most come to my mind, anyway. It's possible that some 'elite' units like the rangers or FSSF may have carried Tomahawks, but I can't be sure. |

Cool! Thanks for the info Jason.
Would love to see a pick of that tomahawk if possible!Did a check on that woodsmans pal one. Nasty is the operative word for sure!
