Here's one more from 1961 with Soviet tanks facing US tanks in the distance. No doubt this was a tense moment. If I recall correctly, and if this is the incident that I recall, the Soviet tanker raised his gun first, defusing the stand-off.

Here is the most comprehensive collection of Wall photographs:

Berlin Wall

And East German military Trabi "jeep' is absolutely hilarious!
I never seen that model.

Klaus! Do you know Trabi? Who knows Trabi?

Cheers,

Re: Berlin Wall Photos

I got to see a piece of the original wall at the Imperial War Museum in London a couple of weeks ago. Like all historical pieces, it seems to radiate energy.

Mate, Hobbsy has a piece of it on his mantle-piece. Well he did when I lived with him.

Things seemed so much simpler and safer back during the Cold War.

Got something like that for you when I finish unpacking. I got you a stone from Omaha Beach. I had a pinecone from the Bois Jacque Forest, but Aus Customs were decidedly unimpressed with me bringing it into the country. Lol.

Hey did you see the Dawn Service on TV from France? We were there! It was awwwwwwwsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Berlin Wall Photos

I went to Berlin in 1973 and 1983 for a City Combat course given by the Berlin Bde.The wall was omnipresent. After our training was through they took us,first.on a tour of West Berlin and then took us through Checkpoint Charlie to tour East Berlin. The difference was amazing.West Berlin was full of life and color, while East Berlin was drab and gray.Everywhere we went there would be Vopo's watching to see who we talked to and where we went.We watched a changing of the guard by thwe Easr German Army, they goose stepped during the change of guard ceremony. We were actually warned not to get to close or they may "accidentally" kick us.We also visited the Soviet War Memorial, which had a Russian Honor Guard.Fortunately these were the only Russian soldiers I ever saw in 2 tours in Germany. It was one of the most exciting times in my life watching the Berlin Wall come down on TV.I knew my German friends dreams had come true.
