It is oversimplification. FDR gave away the sphere of interests which always belonged to France and UK. All Eastern and Central European countries, (except Bulgaria which was very pro-Russian and later pro-soviet), hoped that after the war Western sphere of interest will be restored.
FDR betrayed them.
He gave to Stalin half of Europe and wasted life of a few generations.
Just to be friendly to Uncle Joe.

Re: The Stalin Note

Hello!

You know that Stalin did not want DDR. He wanted single Germany and he did not even press for it to be socialistic. He wanted Germany to be not allied to either of the blocks, like Austria or Finland. He already had built a belt of socialist republics around USSR and had no vital use fo devided Germany. The main (but not the only one, of course) reason two Germany existed is due to the Allied policies after 1945.

And a little off topic thing... the parts of Poland on the right side of the Curzone line were not ethicaly polish and were anexed by Poland from Soviet Russia after the war of 1920. But i guess you knew about it. Right?

Best regard
Igor Korenev

The fact that Austria was not forced to do a choice to "join" Stalin or the werstern group.

Stalin himself forced Finns to keep out of western union a.k.a NATO, he also forced Finns to join to eastern blog as an individual and so called friendly nation.
Finns didn't had any chance to choose by themselves.
Finland was also under Soviet control like baltic countries, only except that soviet troops didn't occupied them, like they did in Estonia (and many more countries). I know many political publications disagree my view.
