Intresting. Getting VERY. What's happening next? They going to pressurive the removal of the Noble Prize from Grass just because he served in the Waffen-SS?
For hell's sake, WWII was over 60 years ago. What judges a man is his actions, not what uniform he wore and what he fought for. My only hope is for him to point out that most of the Waffen-SS soldiers weren't the cold blodded killers as portrayed by the victor's propaganda which continued for 60 years.
Hey, maybe if the war was the other way round and the Germans won, maybe now we would now see bold titles in the 'Volkische Beobachter' proclaiming 'Kurt Vonnegut, Louis Simpson, Ricarhd Matheson admit service in the criminal US Army!" or whatever.
Victor's write the history. If it was unbiased, Grass would be judged for the person he is and what he wrote, and not which side he fought for.
