Bridge on the River Kwai

No...not the movie, the real one. This railroad bridge had 11 spans and was built by POW's and other forced laborers at the cost of many lives. It was the object of frequent bombing by the Allies. Bombs managed to bring down one span in February 1945 and two more were destroyed later on. The following photos are from the Australian War Museum and reproduced here in accordance with their usage policy.
