Political Correctness

This was touched upon in Auschwitz Concentration Camp to be renamed and so I thought I'd start a thread here rather than veer that thread completely vent my frustrations with the "PC Revolution".

It's so advanced here in the US that an employer or even a supervisor cannot tell an off color joke for fear of creating a "hostile work environment" and being subject to a lawsuit. Blind people are "visually impaired", deaf people "hearing impaired", etc. For God's sake, what happened to being reasonable, and walking away if offended?

Re: Political Correctness

Jim,so much to say and so little bandwidth!I went to school and have taught classes at the University of Colorado in Boulder.....the Mecca of the politicaly correct.I drove them crazy,I am almost totally deaf....born that way, can't miss what you never had.But I digress, the pc hippies at boulder would not hesitate to ask how long, why, whats it like, etc. about my being deaf.My first response to thier "hearing impared" comment is(was) I AM DEAF.Its not a dirty word, its not a demeaning word, its just describes a condition of the ear. This was usually followed by a gasp or "oh".I then tell them what I find offensive is them butchering the english language.I'll stop here, time for a pill as my wife tells me when I get woundup.

Re: Political Correctness

On the surface it's look like a good idea to fight racism, however if you examine the PC culture more closely you will find out that it's actually serve rasicsm, rascism is not calling a person with black skin a "Niger" (a latin word that simply mean "Black") but to discrimate him at education, jobs, etc. by the fact that the PC people think that not calling someone a "Niger" or other words you solve racism, this view is actually help rasicm since it's give the impression of advance while infact the true rasicm (discrimination) still exist.

You are very right about this. I couldn't agree more.

Re: Political Correctness

I had my share of political correctness in school.
There was a blind guy, Ramon. We always joked. After a friendly fight he told me he would throw me out of the window. I told him he wouldn't be able to find the window because he was blind as a mole. And he was like 'I'll bang your head on the wall until i find the window'. We had a good laugh. But I was sent to the principal for making fun of him.

Re: Political Correctness

I agree with you. Here in Australia it was and it is completely crazy.
I even heard the most stupid thing - "vertically challenged" about bloke which was 152cm tall...

About 17 years ago I was working in cosmetic packaging factory as production manager. One day girl applied for a job. She was "Kapooka reject" - she spent 3 month in the worst, most cruel conditions of the boot camp and decided that "it's not for her".

She had a funny way of "marching" to the canteen using extensively her hands as "Dutch Windmill". One day I said about her "hollow soldier".
Someone dobbed me, and I had a case in Anti-Discrimination Commission.
Fortunately "Hollow Soldier" interviewed by officer from ADC had to tell date when I expressed so "offensive opinion about her".
She choose a date ... and it was in the middle of my holiday...
I was about 1050 kilometers from the place and I had proofs for it!

Cheers,

Re: Political Correctness

There is a frightening chapter of the grim reality of political correctness of the new revolution in the book 'Death of the West'. Political correctness is used as a tool by another method of Communism. While mainstream communism, failed, the one born in the campuses in the 60s suceeded. As the workers failed to suppoty the communism of Lenin, this brach of communism, based from the ''Frankfurt school of tought', sought to allow commmunism to take hold through undermining the West's cultures and values. For example, un US public schools American history is displayed as genocide. Pretty much the same in Europe, especially in Germany, where young Germans are taught they will be guilty about WWII for ternity, and old German veterans are being harrased. To gain more power, these types are now posing as conservatives, now known as 'neo conservatives', who hijacked Republicanism and the Bush regime.

Here are some rather intresting examples of modern political correctness.

Speak out against multi cultralism or immigration: rascism
Speak a good word about reconcilation after the US civil war or Robert E Lee: rascist and supporter of slavery
Speak good of a Western nations history: supporting genocide and Colonialsm
Be proud of one's nation: Dangerous Nationalist
Prefer old family values: sexist and homophobic
Wishing more babies being born in a dying Europe: sexist
Speak out against abortion: sexist
Be good about being Christian: religously intolerant
Against Foreign intervention: isolationist

the list is much longer. Bolshevism is still on the march! Long live the Reagan revolution!

K

Re: Political Correctness

It's always people who have never been discriminated against that dislike political correctness. Sometimes it does go too far, but tell me have you ever grown up in nuance of hatred that is mostly unspoken. Peoples body language turns away from you just because of the colour of your skin? The tone of voice with a slight tone of hatred. Hear this enough times and the damage it does to the unconcious and self perception? What's wrong with communism I think that some americans are brainwashed into thinking anything that is seen as un-american is wrong and should be bullied into conforming. To their idea of what is right. Sometimes I feel it borders on fascism. I thought america was democratic? Your treated as though you have a disease I feel in america if you are a communist. What was it a great american once said "I may dissagree with what he says but I will defend to my death his right to say it." Communism, not dictatorship, is giving "each according to his ability to each according to his need." People just hate others for being different to them. I have no quarrel with people being patriotic, no quarrel with people being straight, no quarrel with people being christain. But they always seem to have a quarrell with us. I used to look up to the American constitution "that all men are created equal indivisible under god," although not if your a woman, not if your gay, and definightly not if your black. Everyone can offend us but we must not disrespect anyone.
