Well, he was wounded, right? Shouldn't he be wearing the Verwundeten-Abzeichen? Just a wild stab in the dark.

I once got a list of Medals he was awarded. Of course I am not able to find it now. But I am pretty sure the ek1 was among them.

Do you think they are chosen for historical accuracy or good looks which might bring in the almighty dollar?
