19th August 1942 was also the date of the ill-fated Dieppe raid.
19th August 1944 saw the French resistance uprising in Paris. The Vichy government flees, and Petain is arrested by the Gestapo and taken to Germany.
19th Auigust 1945 the Japanese Government announces that to surrender is not considered a loss of honour under the Bushido code.
