    Sgt. Henry Kano, 442d RCT

My unit leader's father, if I can glean some more info and pics I'll post them up. Never met the man sadly.

Here's a story written by Tim:

Thanks for this. The weapon- could it be an M9A1 "BAZOOKA"? See 2.36 inch Rocket Launcher M9A1 "Bazooka"

That would make it too long for him... He was machinegunner a Company Heavy Weapons Platoon carried .30 M1919A4s and the 60mm Mortars. Non-weapon is very strong at this point... hell it could be a case for a stereoscope or something... Tim says its probably fact we'll never figure it out, but it'll bug him... it bugs me... its gotta be something lol...

I just had the time to come back and read this. What a great story.

I've been thinkin' in those lines also as the M9A1 is detachable in the middle in order to ease the carryin' of it.

    Modellers do it with models!

There were very strong feelings against the Japanese during the war years, but I've talked to an awful lot of WWII vets who served in Italy and--to a man--they regard the men of the 442d with great esteem.

That does seem to be the general consensus. Even my old neighbor that lived across from me who served in North Africa, Italy, and France as an MP held them with high regard, especially because they were well behaved when out on pass in Italian towns.

I met Virgil Westdale this past weekend, who was in the 442. He is working on a book, and from our conversation, it should be pretty interesting. If I hear anything more about it, I'll be sure to let you know!
