Welcome aboard Scharfschutzen. The art of the sniper is something very very long in the making and their uses today are versatile. Don't forget some of the world's premiere are US Marine Scout-Snipers. Legends from Vietnam like Carlos Hathcock and Chuck Mawhinney have set the bar of fieldcraft and marksmanship and many of their methods originated with ideas snipers and sharpshooters had in WWI and WWII and even concepts dreamed about in the 19th century. I believe there are some very famous WW2 Finnish snipers as well.
