Thread: Foiling the Wild Horse

    Foiling the Wild Horse

I'm thinking of foiling my next mini project which is a P-51D. I've read plenty about foiling and I've got all the tools, glues and I've got my faithful roll of Bacofoil. I was just wondering if anyone here has done any foils and has any tips tricks etc to pass on?

Well, I've never done it myself but I've heard about a guy here who was determined to win 'Best 1/72 Aircraft' at our annual Expo with a P-51 done with foil. Apparently, he soaked small pieces of foil in various acids such as vinegar or lemon juice to change the sheen on different pieces. I don't know how the soakings affected the adhesive on the foil but he won his trophy.
    Peace.

I've read a guide where the guy was using fine grit paper to burnish the foil in different directions to give a similar effect. I'm just concerned about how to end the panel lines where the joins are. I suppose it'll just be a case of suck it and see, might have to find an old skanky trashed kit from a car boot or my own stock and have a play with that first.

Not a bad idea. I'd go for a small overlap at the panel edges and then use a very, very sharp blade to cut along the panel lines as a start. Sandpaper makes more sense than vinegar now that you mention it. Good luck. A test kit seems like a smart move.
