Alternate scales for FoW

I was given a set of first edition FoW rules and would like to try them out.
I realize the rules were designed for 15mm, from what I see the models released in conjunction with the rules are good.

The quandry is, that I have plenty of N scale (1:160) WWII miniatures, as does my neighbor. We'd like to use these (at least for informal play) and were wondering if there are any rule variants (official or not) which has modified basing for other scales. Games like Johnny Reb have alternate tables for 2mm and up.

Not really but that should'nt stop you guys from playing, V-1 you say, that brings back fond memories for me when I first got into it, let me tell ya.

I would say the biggest thing is the table battlefield and the ratings of the specific models you guys are playing, then is it Early/Mid/Late war you are into, it can be quuite different as to rules. V-2 (2nd ed rule book) has a ton of new things from rules to how each platoon and Company is set up.

I can run you through the basics if you post up what kinds of units you have to play with. Range in your game would be another thing. The 1/160 scale I am not familir with, can you give post a pic of an example to work off of?

Off hand , I don't have anything to show, the figures are roughly half the size of 15mm, we also took advantage of the 1:144 scale tanks and aircraft that were on sale at Walmart. Oddly enough, there is not too much of a variance between the scales and the kits are compatible.

For the Americans we have a plethora of Shermans, for the Germans, a sample of all the most popular tanks and SPGs, I have plenty of Russian Infantry and four tanks, two KVs, two T-34s and some anti tank guns.

OK, then you could just probably cut the range in half then for movement and firing distance would do you guys up. Then say instead of a 4x6 tabkle you could do a 2x 3 foot battlefield, though terrain may be a prob maybe.

Your units need at least 3 tanks per platoon and you need 2x platoons plus an HQ of 2 tanks for German and US forces, wheeled AT assets are divisional support for the most part, any infrantry by chance yet?

Basic Armoured force is

1 Company minimum for a legal force is

HQ - 2 of the same tanks

Platoon 1 - 3 tanks the same though you could mix Pz IIs and Pz IV types of, max of 5 per platoon

Platoon 2 - same as above

Platoon 3 - EXTRA that you don't have to have to be ":legal"

The n you have weapons platoons

Then divisional support.

We haven't ruled out getting the grown-up versions, I was given the rules by someone who plays regularly and he gave me his old rules after I did a favor for him (he knew I was a gamer).

My current focus in gaming is the Ancient/Medieval rules DBA (De Bellis Antiquitatus) and it's related fantasy game HotT (Hordes of the Things) I won last years Origins tournament, never actually having played before.

My neighbor and I took advantage on the cheap tanks, but didn't agree on a system to use, He's going through rules now to see if they'll work for us. I would probably do late war British if I went to the grown-up version.

These aren't complex, I used to be an Intel soldier, it's like bread & butter

I see, then maybe check out Magnas games and his review on an older BF game that became FoW V-1 then V-2 after some designer personel change. There are 3 games in the game Den, two are done and one is still going from Mags Battlefront "old" rules. In V-2 of Flames of War which I am running right now Magna playing the Germans and PanzerBob playing the Russians, check those 4 thread out and see if you like any of them, then go from there.

I've been sick all morning slept till around noon, I've recovered enough, that I'll have to go to work in the morning, better turn in myself.

Actually - Battlefront is by Fire and Fury games and has nothing to do with Flames of War.

Battlefront was originally developed as a simulation game for the US military in the 1980's. It's at a higher level than many other games and caters for miniatures from 1/285th to 1/72 scale with the base units being companies to match the standard required level of base unit for WWII.

Battlefront was the only simulation used at the time of the Kuwait/Iraq conflict that predicted low US troop casualties at a time when all other methods showed there would be huge losses.

Since then it has been adapted to WWII with the card system taking in all the different capabilities of each type of unit and making for less dice throwing, table lookups, and more play.

It depends what level you want to play at as to what rules you go for. I have been playing over so many years with different smaller type sets so I have moved on to the bigger games as it were. These usually mean more than one evenings play which suits our game group as we meet each week and go on from last time. Battlefront (Fire and Fury) suits these games very well so that's what we use.

I thought Battlefront miniatures did both games at one time, I guess I misunderstood.

I thought Fire and Fury came first, the FoW V-1 then FoW V-2, so Fire and fury is the "brand name" and Compnay name itself Dave, a little help here???

Cheers, regardless either rule set or whatver kind of miniature models you have on hand frzz should work for you with a little tweeking, as to cutting down the range and movement for either FoW V-1 or V-2.

Yeah it's confusing at times. Fire and Fury produce the ruleset named 'Battlefront'.

Battlefront produce the ruleset named 'Flames of War'.

Two separate entities with a crossover in the names.
