Righto, the base is probably inaccurate concerning the stukas well being, have to do some research next time. I did use my interior green and mist over the grass today, it didn't do a lot, but a little in lighting up the grass. I also have some dark green tuft, will have to play with that and get some lift out of this rather flat surface. I also filled in those wood spots where the ballast missed, just a earth color.. all looks well now, back to the P61!

Glad to help out mate and I think your base looks fantastic Corey.

But if you want to "lift the surface" topography?

Then in spots where there is grass, take a pinch of grass scatter in between your fingers and sprinkle it so it falls on the same small spot to raise the height of the grass in that particular area.
(Repeat this step randomly in the areas that are more heavily grassed.)

But be carefull not to over do it, because its easy to add more later if you think it needs it, but hard to remove if you add too much.

That said, you have excelled yourself with your first attempt at a diorama base and they will get better as you pick more tricks up along the way.

Thanks Dave, it is easy to over do it. When I first started after the measurements I tried pouring it from the bag like the instructions (Never again!). There was a plastic cap cover and I scooped that into the ballast and slowly tapped it out while moving my hand and it worked like an airbrush with the sprinkling. Then I filled it with grass and did it again, what magic! Very messy though, I got sh*t everywhere!

Yeah it can be messy but its easy and fun to do terrain bases.
(Nothing is too hard to do if you do your research first.)

My AFV diorama is my first attempt at one with an uneven topography and the groundwork on it came out okay.
(My other dioramas have a flat topography.)

I just looked at what and how Model Railroad builders did to make their bases and scenery, then "borrowed" what techniques I needed to build mine.

A mesh teabag strainer works great for this. You can probably find one at your local grocery store.
If you bought it, we brought it.

Ok, so thinking about how my glossy black is Alclad, I thought my silver would be gone because alclad likes to bite. I ran to the plane with my tamiya tape and took many rips at it and got this.. She's saved! It will just take a long ass time to chip her.

Looks great mate. I wonder if you'll have trouble removing the Alclad, considering as you did that it's laquer. Good luck.
    Peace.

    Re: The Progressive Post

It is tedious, but it does allow for you to very slowly remove the paint so the you cant overdo it so fast. Which gives me enough room to know when to stop, for that flap I will need to attack the rest of the border and maybe some middle. A lot of rips to get it off though!

That chipping looks really nice Corey, you could experiment with a stronger tape. Try a bit of celotape it's got a bit more bite and will pull off more paint but go easy with it

I got bored and took my balsa chips and made this. Only my hobby knife, superglue, and my imagination were used. Its not done yet, I still need a ladder, roof system, and to paint it a shade of wood and do some weathering and such. I just put it on my base to spice it up a bit!
