My first impression was he was way too clean and groomed, and a beard.
Then I noticed he doesn't really look Heer. Beards were common in the U Boat service. Maybe he's Kriegsmarine infantry.

Could very well be. I just came across a photo of a Kreigsmarine funeral service in the collection. they may have been taken by the same man.
