Great photos. The top one in the post above shows some "good times". Likely before Stalingrad. Appears to be late spring or early autumn.

The translation of the sign is roughly "Here begins the ass of the world!" (yes, written German has many similarities to English).

Thanks Gott. These actually shocked me when I fell into them. I knew some had survived the war, but I had no idea the range, quality an quantity of them.
