Re: The "What ifs" in WWII
I think "what if" or "alternate history" forums are a good way to depart from the serious, fact based discussions, and have a chance to explore theory.
Nice to be able to take the imagination out for a walk sometimes. Sure, I think its a good idea.

Re: The "What ifs" in WWII
Just name the new "What if?" forum "A can of worms" n' we'll be prepared for the worst like some sealivin' mamals n' such...

Re: The "What ifs" in WWII
That's great to hear. My experience all together is that what if really is a can of worms that can bring out the worst in people, don't ask me why 'cos I don't get that. But in my long time moderating I've seen a lot of stable users go over board when they disagree in what if topics.

Re: The "What ifs" in WWII
No doubt it will take firm, full time moderation, otherwise we end up with one of "those" threads. But remember, things are different here. Any problem will be nipped right at the start and all here know we are serious about not letting things get out of hand.

Re: The "What ifs" in WWII
Don't get me wrong, McCoy. I think your concerns are well founded. We all saw what can happen when a subject and trolls are allowed to run "free range" in a thread. And yes, otherwise good posters were sucked into the fray.
![]() The difference is we don't have any "Jerry Springer" style Mods here content to sit back and watch while verbal chairs get thrown around. I think we have responsible and mature posters here who should have the opportunity to explore other avenues in the discussion of WWII history. All others will be entering a one-way street.

Re: The "What ifs" in WWII
OK, so which of you fine gents would be willing to moderate such a forum with a tight rein if we opened one? Given your concerns there ought to be at least two moderators.

Of course they would also have the backup of roaming Supermods. Edit: I would also like to add both would have, in my opinion, zero tolerance for repeat offenders. A plus in a potential minefield thread.
