What do you guys think about a forum for museums?

First of all, I want to thank Jim for all the changes he has made lately! Its all been great stuff!

Secondly, I had a thought and if this is too much extra headache with all the changes that have been made latey I will respect that. But, what do you guys think about a forum for museums/battlefields/etc? I travel alot, and am always looking for that sort of thing before I leave and while on the road. That being said, I am only one member and there may not be great demand for this.

Have a good one everybody!

That sounds like a great idea to me. A Travellin' n' Museums forum would fit great at the Zone even if I'm not one who travells.

Heather, any day now you just might find a place for photos of such places here at the Zone. That's about all I can say right now.

Re: What do you guys think about a forum for museums?

Heather,

I appreciate your thanks.

I'm not sure that a new forum wouldn't wind up generating no more than half a dozen threads with 1-3 posts each. The forum listing page is getting a bit long now and I don't want to take up a lot of real estate for something that won't get a lot of use.

That said, if someone is willing to do some research and commit to creating threads of different museums and battlefield exhibits on an ongoing basis then I would consider it. Volunteers?

Re: What do you guys think about a forum for museums?

I will NOT volunteer. LOL. I am the member of many other forums, of those I can not think of a single one with a dedicated section to museums.

Having said this, I do like the idea, of having an are to post photos of museums in. IMO it gives a traveler or potential visitor to a museum, a bit of a heads up as to what to expect.

May I suggest a sub-forum of sorts in one of the General Discussion Forums. This way the posts will not be lost under hundreds of posts as we expand.

Re: What do you guys think about a forum for museums?

We've got one such section on the Swedish forum that I'm admin at. But what such a place needs is a bunch of members that like to travel a lot n' keep the forum goin' n' we have that there. Here I don't know, time will tell though if it's possible or not as it depends more or less on the members.

I like the idea, I'm not a traveller myself, but this seems to have potential for some here. Maybe check back on this topic when we have more "new" members here??

Cheers, keep the thoughts coming!!

Tom

I agree. An area to post photos from one's travels to museums and battlefields may attract more posts.

In the meantime, the following websites may be useful:

World War II Museums

War Museums - Places Of Remembrance Throughout Europe

Re: What do you guys think about a forum for museums?

Jim, I would be happy to volunteer to post threads. I have visited a fair few museums in my travels, some great and some small. That is only assuming that you want to start a forum like this. If you are worried about having too many, or whatever, then no worries! I am very appreciative of everything you do to make this thing work!

Re: What do you guys think about a forum for museums?

I vote for a thread, probably a sticky. Find a suitable place to put it, and all members MUST post a review along with all pertinent information about the museums they visit, under pain of....

Well, we'll think of something ghastly....
