Rank Image sizes . .

Just wondering. Maybe it is just me but the rank images seem extremely large. I didn't really notice it till I saw cyberia's 2 Stars.

Re: Rank Image sizes . .

When I was acquiring and adjusting the sizes on these images, there were several factors in play.

If I recall correctly, the 1-4 star ranks were individual stars that I had to put together myself. I resized the single star to have a height of 125 pixels which is almost the same height as the largest "non-com" ranks. If I resized the two star rank to be narrower I would lose height versus the one star, and I didn't think the "look" was good compared to the space saved. I did reduce the height on the three and four stars as they were clearly too large.

I angle thought about offsetting the two stars on an angle, making them each smaller but preserving the height with a smaller width. I decided against it because it would be less "authentic". Generals wore their stars in a row, not at an angle.

Here are the rank graphics as they exist. Feel free to create proposed replacements and I will take them into consideration.

Actually, in looking at it, the two star rank is somewhat reduced in height as compared to the one star.

Here is what it would look like at the same width as the one star:

Putting them next to one another:

I made what I thought was the best aesthetic choice, but I'm not married to it.

Another thought that occurred to me recently is to allow larger avatars so that the height is somewhat more matched. Like I said, I'm open to ideas.

What's the limit now? When I put up my avatar the limit was 120 x 120 n' I notice that your's is 175 x 175 n' that's a good size för the avatar. I can't see any need to have 'em bigger than your current Jim. Well Maybee a little more so it fills out that little space but not by much.

Wink Re: Rank Image sizes . .

They look just fine and seem to be the right size for me Jim, my take on this one.

Cheers

I can set them by user group. I set mine bigger when I added the ranks, since I gave myself that silly six star. A 175px height should cover most of the ranks and the user names, but the way it works is I can set a maximum height and a maximum width but I can't set a minimum dimension, so someone can have a rectangular avatar which is 175px wide and still only 90-100px in height. That would look a bit silly next to a big rank also.

Re: Rank Image sizes . .

I found some others that may be more uniform in size. If people prefer I can use these shoulder boards:
