Night of the long knives

The "night of the long knives" in 1934 was an event in which Adolph Hitler had his political oponents and leaders of the(SA) killed by the (SS) his new body guard. Roehm the leader of the (SA) (Hitler's storm troopers) stood in his way and power. Roehm wanted to nationalise everything including the army. This was written in Mien Kampf although Adolf would forego his principles for political control. Hitler need to justify these asassinations before parliament. This was by no means a forgone conclusion that he would be accepted. I n some ways it was possibly the most important speech of his career. He stood before the Reichstag and as Hitler manipulated the moment and some History, Destiny conceivably stood behind him and Fortuna uttered that famed phrase ‘thou art mortal.’

Probably Hitler feigned deafness and was carried away by the power of his own prose and the torrent of his autocratic language with speech. He ignored the wisdom in this ancient expression of the echoes of eons that had passed as times before. That had counselled many Emperors before his ‘new age and revolution.’ His ego had engaged the adoration of his new followers that had overwhelmed his facade. Thus, Germany was to be submersed into his conscious and the utter insanity that this entailed.

Hitler’s Praetorian Guard had collected a conspirator’s debt. The debt was revenge and the method of payment was murder. The guarantors of the outstanding balance were the army and the (SS); their victims’ crimes were against this new state. For wanting more democracy with some socialism and a dose of anti Nazism or just about anything, that came to mind of the fuehrer at any mitigating instant.

The bloodbath ensued for the traitors in this new Germany. Who were treasonable in Hitler’s new state? Then in the Reichstag with two intimidating black uniformed giants of men. Who were either side of him? Hitler probably made his most important speech of his career. Possibly, death or dictatorship for life. Some of the politicians listening to their fears as well as their aspirations; accepted the reality of National Socialism’s retribution.

Historical etiquette and providence required that glory of the omnipotent be his for a brief time. They hailed Caesar. Roehm the pretender was dead. ‘Long live the king.’ The Reichstag knew who was to be a supreme ruler in this new Reich of a thousand years or more. They then ROARED repeatedly and once more long live the Fuehrer. Sieg Heil, Sieg Heil they stood in standing ovation. Once more and again, they roared SIEG HEIL SEIG, and HEIL they cried. The room shook with Hitler’s exaltation. The Nazis had considered whom they thought as irregular to the ideals of volgeimienschaft, the peoples’ community.

At last, now the deviants of either sex or politics could be murdered legitimately by the state. The state was in reality National Socialism’s expression articulated by the one leader’s words with deeds. Then the Nazi thugs would implement his brand of socialism. Principally, National socialist theories that were the paradoxical intrigues amid the antagonisms of Hitler’s intellect and mind.
