Re: Straight up trade - Rommel for Patton

Salutations All

But then again thinking about it, Imagine Rommel with all that support. Plus that American Army was pretty gung ho, too much for Monty's liking. Also with that I would say that Rommel would no doubt would say stuff the agreement i am after Berlin.

Regards

Re: Straight up trade - Rommel for Patton

You're still dealing with two fundamentally different doctrines: Firepower for the US and Maneuver for the Germans. I don't believe either commander would do well with the opposing doctrine. Rommel tried Firepower at 1st El Alamein and failed. I can't think of an example of Patton using Maneuver.

Re: Straight up trade - Rommel for Patton

I don't know I I agree with Rommel being too independant, as stated previously. In many ways, Rommel as an American commander would have been very much like Omar Bradley, to my way of thinking. He was a very-by-the-book commander much of the time.

Patton....well, there would definitely have been a lot of problems with butting heads up top.....Ike made George take a time out in the corner....Hitler would most probably have had him shot!
