Re: Whoohoo! Pin-up girls!

Ms. Lake was best known for the way she wore her hair, of all things. Not the color, but the way she combed her bangs...McCoy has the better shot, which shows how she draped it over one eye. That was apparantly so seductive to men of the era.

I have to admit that my preference is for Rita, though!

Heather, if you have a Barnes & Noble near you, and you're interested in the subject (even mildly, as they are an artform to many), I just picked up a book lately of pinups...I think it was about $12! I've been meaning to try my hand at similar illustrations, as I find the subject facinating, and I picked up the book when I saw it, as a reference piece. What really fueled my interest of late is work done for advertising posters for the Axis & Allies Moiniatures game system that I have way too much money invested in. If I ever do anything decent in the form, maybe I'll post a pic or two, if anyone's interested.

Re: Whoohoo! Pin-up girls!

I actually have a bunch of pin up sites bookmarked. When friends go to the war zone I always send pin ups. So I have bought many a pin up calender and book, plus I have downloaded a lot from the web. When I get home I will see about posting some.

I have always thought that the WWII era pin ups are classy and perfect to send to soldiers overseas.

Hey whiterook! You are an artist?

Of course, we would be interested. I was shocked to find there was still a sub-culture for pin-ups. There was even a thread on some forum for how to dress up like a pin-up. Five or six girls posting pics to emulate and tips to look more realistic.

Re: Whoohoo! Pin-up girls!

As I was going thru some pics for other areas, I came across this one.....It shows a pin-up taped up to the gun shield of a German Halftrack. An obvious place for inspiration.....and the other side has some sort of wildcat. The pics look to have been taken from magazines of the time..

Thought it would be an interesting addition, Heather...

Re: Whoohoo! Pin-up girls!

Great stuff guys! Keep it coming. I am touring a sub in the next couple of days and they specifically mentioned the pin-ups in the brochure. Maybe I can snap a few pics and get 'em up here.

Not sure. Its in Fisherman's Wharf and I think it includes ship. I would think so. Never been to town that had 2 touring subs in different parks.
