I remember watching a documentary years ago about the Iran/Iraq war of the seventies/eighties. There was trench warfare in that conflict and Saddam used his chemicals. I'll never forget the face of the young Iranian kid in the hospital with terrible burns from mustard gas. His face was so bad he made John Merrick (the 'Elephant Man') look normal. I also remember the irony of his mother's pleas to the hospital staff to ship her son to America where they could 'cure' him. I coudn't help but think 'Great Satan' one day, medical miracles the next.

That's not true! The French did in fact win in the Revolution (but then the opponent was also French)...
