Re: Bloody Hell-WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES OF WAR DEAD

In reference to a pic above with dead at Champagne...they say the best Champagne comes from the years after WW1 and before WW2. There's so much blood and bone in the soil and the vines do very well. I had a girlfriend once who's mother was an insane gardener. She had planted grape vines around their house and the were huge. I asked her how old they were and she stated that they were only two years old, but she'd planted them on top of a dead chicken which was 'the way to plant grape vines'.

Sorta puts a new spin on the Roman addage of "Drinking the blood of one's enemies."

German dead in a trench following artillery barrage

This photo was made famous toward the end of WW1 and the years after....see the body in the foreground who seems to be reclining? It also appear he is smiling......(eerie) The Antiwar movement used this picture in MANY publications during and after the War....Along the line of the "Sweet sleep of Death, Etc..." Strange they should pick this photo......although it does show the intense horrors of trench warfare.

Re: Bloody Hell-WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES OF WAR DEAD

Here some pics I borrowed from another site....The originals look to have come from Wartime Magazines of France, Germany and Great Britain. Most have the original captions in the Respective nations Language. I found them frightful and shocking, especially for their time period. I will post what I got over the next few days.......WARNING.....Some of these are more graphic than what is already here!!

Artilleryman...long since fallen at his post

Fallen Landser in a muddy trench.

Unidentified casualty awaiting grave detail.

Another Casualty being removed by a grave detail. Artillery has done it's deadly business.

A smashed trench, and the remains of it's defenders.

Re: Bloody Hell-WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES OF WAR DEAD

From deep underground, to fallen from the sky.......

The English caption said this was a French tunnel at Verdun....sapped into by the Germans no doubt.....

English caption stated this was the 2nd Officer of the Zeppelin shown in inset photo (being shot down)

Another crewman from the same (above) Zeppelin.

English plane and the remains of it's crew, shot down behind German lines.

German Caption reads "British fighter pilot shot down near Douai in July 1918"

Near Brand, a charred French pilot lies in the remains of his burnt up plane.

Rear gunner and badly burned pilot (English) Downed near Foucaucourt in April 1918.
