Re: What book are you reading now...

I finished Richard Overy's "Why the Allies Won" which is a good summary of the Allies did win. I am now reading "D-Day" by Stephen Ambrose.

Quite an old book I got second hand - The Electron and Seapower. A bland title but some real insight into the use of electronic equipment and it's effects in various naval situations.

Finally started reading Stalingrad by Antony Beevor. I can see why it won the Samuel Johnson award already. Tanks to those here who recommended it too.

Whike on vacation I read "D-Day" by Martin Gilbert. Its a short book, 220 pages with maps, sources and index. The thing I found most intersting was the amount of deceptions the Allies for the Nirmandy invasion.

That was very key to the Normandy invasion, big time!! If the Germans had fortified and had all of those troops and armour in Normandy compared to the "fake" landing zone, the outcome might have been a bit different.

Cheers, I hav'nt read that specific book yet, so you would recommned it, or is it pretty basic?

Read-> Secret Soldiers: How a Troupe of American Artists, Designers and Sonic Wizards Won World War II's Battles of Deception Against the Germans by Philip Gerard. It has got to be one of the coolest books on my shelf about the history of the US deception units in Europe.

I was reading "Roll Me Over" but put it aside to finish some other non WW2 books I had already started including a book on the Peloponnesian War and an alternate history of the ACW.

Re: What book are you reading now...

I just finished reading Meyer's Grenadiers. I'm also reading The Last of the Mohicans in the original form as Cooper wrote it.

I also read Forum Kamerad Taylor's fictional work on the 101st in Normandy.
