Re: What book are you reading now...

All I can say is that for the past year, the bulk of my typing has been on my glossary project. So far, it looks like it's going to be the most comprehensive glossary of WWII German military terms and phrases I've seen yet. That's not just the author spouting off, either! I'm digging through one of the most respected glossaries now, and I have SO MANY words it doesn't have!!! I'm working on the letter "G" right now. Then I have two more on-line resources I've found that I need to go through, just to see if they have anything I've missed. I'm working as I type on getting a period German military glossary, that should help me a lot! I had wanted to have this project done by now, but I keep finding new materials! At this rate, I ought to have it done by summer!!! But, this thread is about what I'm reading, not writing!! I got the new copy of Flags of Our Fathers, but got sidetracked with Island of Fire. Jason's research continues to astound me! I've never been physically anywhere near Stalingrad, but between the two books of his I've read, I feel like I was there!! |

Re: What book are you reading now...
Just finished George Blackburn's "The Guns of Normandy". Author was an artilleryman with 2nd Canadian Div and combines his own personal experience with that of other members of the 4th Field Arty. He also keeps the reader aware of the larger picture providing an historical overview of the campaign from the taking of Caen thru "Totalize" and "Tractable" to the liberation of Dieppe. It's a mite long (almost 500 pages) but well worth it if you like stories from the soldier's point of view.
Right now am about 3/4 way thru "Battle of Britain Day" by A. Price covering the air battles over London on 15 Sept 1940. Price is very detailed, covering the strategic and tactical side along with many personal accounts from both the RAF and Luftwaffe as well as British civilians. It's a short read with many appendices covering aircraft specs, OOB, combat losses, etc-a "must have" for any BoB enthusiast out there |

You're welcome Tom. I've read through chapter three and must say it's a great read so far. I agree with you on your comments on the photo section. |
