Re: What book are you reading now...

I just finished reading a book I picked up last weekend. Its titled Valediction And Remembrance: Canadian Epitaphs Of The Second World War. It is a collection of Epitaphs found on Canadian War Graves. I picked it up mainly because the epitaph on my uncles headstone is quoted on page 171. It is a 192 page hard cover book.

This is from the publisher: This beautiful book is a moving tribute to fallen soldiers of the Second World War. Filled with examples of the inscriptions families requested for the headstones of their lost ones, the book builds around these epitaphs a tapestry of past history and present landscapes.

The author takes us on a virtual tour of cemeteries and monuments all over Europe where Canadian soldiers are buried. His eloquent descriptions are richly interwoven with background information on relevant events of those years, and together with the many photographs they bring his subject to life.

My Just War by Gabriel Temkin

It is the memoir of a Jewish soldier of the Red Army in WW2, seems to be a really good read.

I just picked up an original copy (1944) of Carel Birkby's "Close to the Sun".
This means 'My Just War' has to be put on hold for a couple of days.

This bad-boy still smells like South Africa and I can't wait to start reading it.
