Re: What book are you reading now...

Just started something a little offbeat-"And If I Perish" about US Army nurses in the ETO. Sad to say these ladies weren't accorded the same respect as male officers even though they wore rank insignia on their uniforms-seems like they were purely ornamental. Also understand that they were denied membership in veteran organizations postwar as they weren't considered veterans. That's funny as I know a number of them were killed at Anzio's "Hell's Half Acre". If memory serves me right there was no "rear area" at Anzio-guess the vets of 3rd ID, 45th ID, !st SSF etc just made that one up. If being under fire doesn't make you a veteran-what does? Let's hear it for the ladies!

Reading a classic, "The Last Battle" by Cornelius Ryan. Great book on the battle for Berlin, also has a good section on Gotthard Heinrici. I've read this one more then once.

Couldn't agree with you more-must have read it 3 times when I was a kid. As a matter of fact, I just found an excellent copy of it at the WW2 Weekend in Reading this weekend for $3.00. Have you ever read Beevor's "The Fall of Berlin"?

Currently.

Rees'. Auschwitz. The Nazis and the Final Solution.

Carlyon's. The Great War.

Killblane and McNiece. The Filthy Thirteen. From the Dustbowl To The Eagles Nest.

Collin's. The Rules of Engagment

Burton's. Inside Spin. The Dark Underbelly Of The PR Industry.

Hobsbawm's. The Age Of Extremes 1914-1991.

My mind is a little scattered.

I've just finished Lost Victories by Eric Von Manstein, a very interesting read. Also The Battle of Kursk, Glantz. Very detailed account of the famed battle. I found it was well worth reading.

I amy about a quater of the way through "Touched With Fire" by Eric Bergerud. I find it a great discruption of the conditions faced during the Land War in the South Pacific.

Just started "In Hitlers Bunker" A Boy Soldiers Eyewitness Account of the Fuhrers Last Days, by Armin D. Lehman

At 16 years old Armin Lehman was a Hitler Youth courrier for HJ Leader Artur Axmann during the final days in the bunker.
