Beevor books

I have recently been given two books by this author to have a look at. There seems to be two schools of thought on these ones. Perhaps Amvas can help as to whether info is correct or not. Some say yes, some say no. Particularly with reference to atrocities by both sides and numbers of units facing off at times.

Any help here? I want to know if they are worth reading.

I'm guessing you have Stalingrad and Berlin. As to whether they are accurate or not, that could be argued until thhe end of time. I they worth reading? I think yes, both are very good reads.

Thanks Wolster. I wasn't sure - never am with some books. Still, if there is some controversy around them then I will have to work it out from what else I can find.

I loved them too. It seems there will always be debate about certain issues but I think Beevor is a pretty meticulous researcher. For every detractor, there are ten fans. Enjoy.

Re: Beevor books

I've read the Berlin book and thought it was quiet good. The Stalingrad book is on the want list.

I think they are worth reading. But, having wrtiteen a book about the Battle of Berlin myself, I decided not to use Beevor as a source because I could not trace many of his quotes and sources and found a slew of significant errors in nomenclature and historical timelines. His style is journalistic, and readable so the books are worth the time.
