I GOT IT for $50.00!!! It seems one of my game stores has to move, the rent got jacked up big time sorry to say. AND, it may move a lot further away from where I live to!!! NOT GOOD in my opinion.... The owner does'nt even have a location yet and he has to be out by the end of July maybe.
Cheers, I will go through it tonight, wish I had a scanner and then I could post some pics here, oh well, maybe later when I get one, along with my digital camera!! LOL Tom |

Re: SS Armour on the Eastern Front
I'd say I was green with envy but that wouldn't be very sporting of me. So, congratulations on a great bargain. Enjoy!

Thank you sir, you just have to know the book is going to be good with the pic of the 3 Konigstigers and the short barreled 7.5 half-track driving down a Russian snow swept road on the front cover, Which is not a "paper" cover, but embossed right into the front (hard) cover, pretty SWEET!!
Cheers, more later after I finish the book!! Tom |

Re: SS Armour on the Eastern Front
Sounds excellent. Does it also feature colour illustrations of individual vehicles?

Re: SS Armour on the Eastern Front
Hmmm, maybe I'm a little less envious then. I thought it featured colour profiles which are what most interested me. From the modeller's perspective these are invaluable as you probably know. I think some of the colours one sees on models these days are fanciful at best. Being largely uninformed about the 'finer points' of German armour, profiles of German tanks are what I'm looking for really. I only have three small books and after talking to 1 LAH SS here, I seriously begin to doubt the credibility of one of them. Consider me an aircraft modeller who's rediscovering the joys of armour lately. I'm building my first tank in 15 years at the moment.

For me, some of the "color profiles" I have seen in some books do not impress me, I'll look for some examples later. But an original pic even though in B-W, can give you a fairly good clue. The actual color I think most can come up with a good and semi-realistic depiction of by now........ But the actual patterns can be quite something else. Now THAT I have seen people take to many liberties for my taste sometimes, and on actual vehicles that do have pics out there!!!
Cheers, I'm not a "great camo painter" myself compared to the mags, but I try to hold my own. Tom For me the real thrill of getting newer books is trying to find pics I hav'nt seen before and hopefully some combat ones!! |

Re: SS Armour on the Eastern Front
I know of the liberties you speak of. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a stickler for accuracy but I think there's a limit. It would seem I'm the opposite of you modelling wise. I love a challenging paint job...Luftwaffe subjects and particularly the Nachtjagd as well as Italian camo schemes really impress me. when done well on a model, they look amazing.

What gets me sometimes is when you see a model pic and it actually does look "Germanish" like the best one you have NEVER EVER seen before in an original pic. Then you come to find out there just is'nt one, something like....
"I bet the Germans "might" have done this one, it looks pretty cool anyways......."" To funny there, I get all excited and start looking for "proof" that they actually did that camo or pattern and you find nothing!!! AARRGG Right now I have this big toy half-track that I have been saving for the perfect camo pic that I can get ahold of, but so far no luck. But I will post in the model forum or "vehicle" forum so you guys might have some picks that I could use one of these days. Cheers, thanks for the reply there my friend!! Tom PS No "good" h-t pics yet as to great camp shots in the SS arour book yet either....... ![]()
