Confessions of a P-51 Fighter pilot in WW II, by Richard K. Kurtis.

I just got this today, so I hav'nt cracked it open yet, looks interesting though!!

Cheers, and I also reordered Glandz's books on Kursk and Titans, I need them fresh for a re-read to, toss in Tank Rider and T-34 in Action as well, its been a while for those and I could'nt find em' where I thought I put them last.........

Question Re: Dumb but Lucky.......

I got a couple chapters done so far. One thing was that it was written that Japan could not shoot down our bombers with their guns, so they bombed them. The thing is that it seems like he was trying to say that Japans pilots tried this while the US bomber were in the air!!!....... NOT on the ground, I'll have to re-read that chpter, I was a bit tired by then this morning maybe.

Cheers, has anyone else ever heard of this??????

Hey, I'm reading that now. It's taking me quite a while to get through it. So far about two months. It's one that I save for every other Thurs night. My wife and I take turns taking my Mother to.......bingo! ugg. I read it when they have special games.Tonight is my turn again.I'm starting chapter 8. It's been rather boring though. I hope it gets better.

Re: Dumb but Lucky.......

Wait a minute are you saying that the Japanese tried to bomb the bombers while they were in the air with airplain bombs

I got thru chp. 8 last night. It is so far, the best. More going on. I kinda just breeze over his letters to and from his wife. In 8 they were a little more telling.

What do you guys think he means by this??

" I was learning from the radio that the Japanese, disgusted that they'd not been able to knock down a single B-17 Flying Fortress, had resorted to bombing them from above with their divebombers-to no avail."

Page 4, Horch can verify that with his copy, it could be just a play on words, but his writing style does'nt seem to show that kind of "thing" in the book so far.

Cheers, maybe it's just me though..........

Red face Re: Dumb but Lucky.......

Thanks, what was your impression on what he meant by that anyways? Also, I really can't get into the writing style, not caring about training and such when he was so gung ho to get into the action, know what I mean Horch?

Cheers, this book needs to get way better, or I think I just wasted some $$ on this one........

Being as I only read it every other week when I take my Mother to bingo, you may well finish it before me. I am HOPING it will get better. It isn't one I perhaps would have bought if I knew ahead of time if it was boring or not. I know what ya mean about all the daily hum drum stuff. It 'does happen'. But WW2 is a great interest to me. My Father was in the Navy back then and didn't talk about it much, which I can understand. It's perhaps one reason I try to put a little bit about fighting the 'japanese'. But anyhow's, ya buy a book, it should be made as interesting as possible. So far, this guy was lucky. ( ya had to there, not so boreing then)It would be great if they all could been. I have read a lot of papperbacks over the yrs. Ballentine used to put out a bunch of good ones. They had a picture on the cover. On the inside there was a flap that opened up to a bigger pic of the cover. If you get your hands on one or more, keep em! I took the centerfolds out and gave the books to the Salvation Army.(a whole bag of em) Back to the book, it's not really a waste of time or $$$$. It's just one more for the memory banks. Someone made a few bucks. The way it goes. You will have to come to your own conclusions.Finish it, and DON'T tell me how it ends. Sorry to have babbled so much.
