Panzer Aces and Panzer Aces II

These are two good books to read if your an armored fan. I finished one so far and am through half of the second. I don't really read history books that often but I borrowed this two books from the library and read one within a week and I decided to take some more time to read the second one. Both are really interesting.

I took this off the back for a description

On September 1, 1939, Germany invaded Poland and ignited World War II with a revolutionary fighting force that would forever change the face of war. The key to blitzkrieg–“lightning war”–was large scale deployment of Panzers, German armored tanks. Aided by the tremendous air power of deadly screaming Stukas, Panzer battalions attacked swiftly, violently, smashing through enemy lines, destroying supplies and artillery positions, and shattering the enemy’s will to resist. The sheer scale of rapid-fire victories amazed the world and elevated the tank soldiers to an almost mythical status.

Panzer Aces and Panzer Aces II chronicles the battles of 12 decorated officers (6 for each book) who helped create the legend. Based on extensive research, these gripping narratives of D day at Normandy, the bloody campaigns in Italy, the ferocious combat at Kursk–the greatest armored battle in the history of war–and many others offer resounding evidence of how the armored tank, in German hands, became the twentieth century’s single most important development in land fighting.

My favorite chapter was Albert Ernst, he was a good officer and cared more about his men then himself, and yes I did also read Infantry aces

To the first question, the chapter on Kurt Knispel in Panzer aces II. As far as I know this is the only written account of Knispels life. And to be honest I'ld like to find another account and not just Kurowski's.

Question 2, Yes a real long time ago.

How about you Tom? What was your favorite chapter?

Wink Re: Panzer Aces and Panzer Aces II

HHMM, I'll have to dig them out, but in general I liked the general "feel" of all of them so you can get a general sense of what those guys were thinking and doing on and off the battlefield.

Cheers, that will have to do for now, did you read Infrantry Aces as well Hagen??
