Yeah, usually that's my kind of luck too. In fact, I didn't think I would get to go this time because of my limited budget. Off topic, whiterook did you see the new M44 campaign bag?

Say whiterook, I found a picture of my best friend (guy to the left) and others playing an overlord game at a con two years ago.
I don't remember the scenario, but I think it might have been something having to do with the battle of the bulge.

Re: Have you vere attended a Gaming Convention?

Pat...GenCon is supposedly much bigger han Origins (about twice the size, I've heard....more heavy in the Dearlers, whereas Origins is more heavy in the gaming. That's the distiction I've heard, anyways. I definitely want to go to GenCon some year, though. It's in Indianapolis this year. I'm still getting used to Origins still...and I like the fact that it's a bit smaller...still, it's pretty darned big!

KGP...I hear 'ya, man. That is SOOOOO my luck to pull Jury Duty. I jst found out that I can request a postponement...may not be granted, but I supposedly can ask, once I get my packet in the mail. We'll see. I have to report a week before I am scheduled to leave. I was reading these things can last up to 6-months! YIKES!

50th...very cool pic Mate! Playing Overlord just the two of them? I've yet to play Overlord, yet. On the bag, I saw a oicture (I think it was at Day's of Wonders' M44 Forum, of a black bag with Memoir '44 printed on it. I thought it was something someone made up themselves. Did DoW FINALLY release this thing?

Re: Have you vere attended a Gaming Convention?

At Gencon'88 If remember there was 15,000 people there. AD&D was the dominate theme that is for sure. I spent alot of time wandering around and looking. I played in AD&D open got two the second round, but it was a frustrating experience. The session was only 2 hours long and the players, I was with wanted to examine every room with a microscope, instead of listening to the story.

Wargaming- I played AH 3rdReich got to the 3rd round. Also played in the Team Yankee tournament but missed a round forfeiting because of 3rd Reich

Re: Have you vere attended a Gaming Convention?

I've never got to a game convention or the like. It must be interesting to see all that is on offer and to find out how much interest there is out there.

Magma, it's a great place to meet people who have similar interest and to see different strategies to games, and maybe learn tactics for your favorite game that you wouldn't think of. And Whiterook, there were actually 4 of us playing overloard, you just couldn't see the other person, and then I took the picture.

hey, I like some of the new smilies!

Re: Have you vere attended a Gaming Convention?

Yeah, the Cons are truly amazing. I had myself scheduled out in so many events and tourneys, that I didn't have time to explore properly. One of the cool things is the Dealer's Room, with hundreds of games on display and sale...and some of the vendors allow you to Test Play a new developing game! For instance, the Flames of War folks were there demoing their system, and I never got a chance to play out some moves with them. On the other side of the coin, I saw Band of Heroes for the first time, and played a demo with the designer....how cool is that!

Talking Re: Have you vere attended a Gaming Convention?

I just got back from a con that took place over the weekend in Collinsville Ill. It was DieCon 8. I ran a Memoir 44 Overlord, but only two other people signed up to play. Here is one of the pictures:

So two of us played Americans and one guy played the German side by himself! The scenario was Bastogne Corridoor, which I could not find anymore on the scenarios from the front. Another game I played that had to do with WWII was a tank battle game with GI rules. The tanks are the pre-painted plastic toys sold in Walmart stores. There were also a couple of other to scale tank minis used in the game as well. Here is the pic:

I played the Americans in the picture and, yes, my M-18 TD's were having a rough go at it at first. But they came through and took out the Tiger hiding in the woods. My three Shermans on the right side of the board took out the three Panzer IV's in the village. The Americans won the battle! What a great time I had at the Con!!!

Thumbs up Re: Have you vere attended a Gaming Convention?

Oh yes, I played a newer version of A & A that had destroyers and artillery! here is the pic:

I played the British and the Americans, but it has been about three or four years since I played last, so I lost. The guy on the right played Germany, and he won hands down.
