Re: Flames of War

Cool! Thanks for the link. I suppose if one is industrious, one could make their own, painitng or dyeing cotton; but there's something to be said for having it ready made. I may incorporate that in my Axis & Allies Miniatures. Technically, the Destroyed units are removed at the end of the Casualty Phase, but it could prove interesting to leave them on as wrecks. May be a home rule to develop in there somewhere!

For FoW, you leave any (destroyed) armoured vehicles on the table with smoke, and it counts as a "sight" obsticle IF a unit is trying to fire or be fired at through the smoke!! A +1 on a 6 sided dice roll does make the smoked wrecks more of a challange and even a strategy to some as well. Destroyed armour also has an increased bog roll if a fully tracked vehicle tries to go across it, say on a bridge or narrow bocage road to!!

Henry, were your battles effected by the smoke and bog rules or not a big factor?

Cheers

Tom

The first battles we fought were for control of a bridge, and the mass of (mostly Soviet) destroyed armor on the span did become a major factor. After the majority of Soviet tanks were knocked out, the Germans had a devil of a time clearing the wrecks to be able to come through. I will probably post mor pictures on my blog in the next day or two that shows this clearly. Interestingly, I am currently reading "A Bridge Too Far," by Cornelius Ryan, and the Germans had the same problem at Arnhem with the bridge jammed with wreckage.

Currently we are in the middle of an Afrika battle, and in the wider open spaces of the desert, quite realistically, it has much less of an effect. All in all, I like the rule for leaving the wrecks in place. And it certainly does make the battlefield look better with all the burning tanks.

Henry

That makes a lot of sense, really. Not sure why it's not included in the Axis & Allies minis game structure. I have to think on that one a bit! I'll have to ask the Wizard of the Coast dudes that question at Origins next month!

Re: Flames of War

I used to do FoW. The only reason I stopped was because the lack of game where I live. I used to do German forces, Stalingrad only.

I cant remember where I put most of my models.
But the stuff that I have found (mainly left-over models) were:

- parts of my Grenadierkompanie (these are not full sets, some models are missing, i'm just rounding off what is there).

3 Rifle teams

1 Rifle/MG team

1 Light Mortar team

1 SMG team

2 Tiger I Es

1 captured T-34

1 Major Bruno Koenig

Also, I have the Stalingrad Handbook.

The last time I played there was a lot of discussion about new factions and models. Have they brought in aircraft or marine models yet?

Cheers

Thumbs up Re: Flames of War

Aircraft are there, but to expensive and not quite the right scale either, you get get better ones form your local store. I also play German, and Russian forces, it is Late-War now in the BF land LOL. Cobra is the last battle book out this week, then onto Bagration in the Eastern front. Finding players in central Wisconsin is not easy either, about the only guy left is my Hobby store owner friend Scott, but his days off and mine are the opposite as well the past 3 months......

Cheers, glad to see another FoW gamer here, even if it was from the past. I really got to get started on this thread for basic play, and maybe with DDs help a game of this as well, or at least a dig camea pick game like Magnas here, then we could all hook up and play here to!!!

Red face Re: Flames of War

Cobra is out, but I don't have my copy yet........ AARRGGG!!!!

The SS seems pretty good as well as the Barkman hero unit and his Panther rules, and the US tank Co's are looking good as well, and their (new) heavy arty platoons, just not sure where you can legally attach that one to yet!!

Cheers, come on game shop UPS, get your butt moving!!!
