Hey,
Any of you guys remember the S&T line of "board" (actually fold out paper maps) games? I've still got several and that's all we played back in the early to mid 70's. Well, maybe a little Avalon Hill Panzer Leader every now and then.

I've never seen those games out here. perhaps they weren't marketed. I have seen Panzer leader though. The fold out maps sound intriguing. How big are they ?

razorboy, what does "S&T" stand for...what company (or is that the company name)? I don't recognize it.

Magna, the fold-out (or fold-up) paper maps were quite popular...especially for the manufactures, as I suspect it reduced their overhead substantially...and I have quite a few games with them, most notably Victory Games titles. I guess not everyone had the resources Avalon Hill had in producing high quality, glossy hard boards; not that the paper versions are less quality by any means, as most are quite well done. The issue I see with the paper maps are: they are more prone to wrinkles, tears, stains, and all other sorts of wear-and-tear; they can "ridge" at the folds, creating nasty annoyances in unit movement and placement; and tend to not age as well, yellow unseemly, as they are not laminated.

Don't know for sure but, there used to be a magazine called "Strategy and Tactics" could be what razorboy was talking about. At least that was the first thing that sprang to mind when I saw the title of the thread.

Oooooooh, that probably is what RB is talking about, and considering I GET the magazine currently, I feel a little dumb here. Yes, they still sell the magazine, and in fact, I'm a subscriber! Its bi-monthly (6-issues per year). It's offered in a subscription two ways: each issue features a paper mapped/counter playing pieces game, but you can get a subscription without the games inclusion for $19.97; or with the game of each issue for $109.97 (that's the highest amount I've ever seen charged for a magazine subscription!).

The Games are actually very well done, and the research into and historical accuracy is top notch. I highly recommend the magazine; especially the games issues at the higher amount if you can afford it!
