Do you paint your wagons red?

You guy's have too much time on your hands. Now when I play a miniatures game like battletech, where the mini's are metal colored, I paint. But when it is a board game, my choice is to leave it that way. However, as I said on a previous post, I will paint the white p38. I just don't have that precious airpack yet. I have a friend that I play Battletech with, he don't even paint those mini's He either sprays them all one color, or leaves them the color of the metal. That I can't do.

Hee heeee, I hear 'ya 50th! I have to admit that some people carry it to amazing levels, considering how much time it takes to paint these, but I definitely think it's worth the effort. It is that elusive "time" thing that keeps me from going hog wild like some folks do, though. Let me also go on record in saying that, whereas I certainly agree with your point of certain era's being more colorful, there is still a lot to be said for the uniforms and camo patterns from, say, WWII. Even a mild camo paint job can elevate that piece from toy soldier status, to something a little more authentic.

eldurand, fabulous work there...I love the Corsair! I was hopeing to get a Corsair when I picked up my two issues of Game Trade Magazine, which I would have put Pappy Boyington's white arrow on the wing, but alas, I got two P-40's (but lucky for me in the end). I don't know if I ever mentioned it back over at DoW's site, but, I was very flattered that my Russian lend-lease inspired you to paint one of your own...that meant a lot to me! BTW, what paint did you use in painting them?

You can get them on E-Bay. All the unpainted ones can be had there. Just type in "Memoir '44" and you'll find them in the E-Bay store section at the bottom of the page. They are also in the "Buy it now" catagory only and they are asking $4.99 for each plane.

Thanks KGP! I was lucky when I got my two P-40's...the game store I got the magazines from gives them away to customers for free, and I snagged the last two copies of that issue. Can't bring myself to pay $5 for one plane mini, though....I choose my battles, with the high price of games today, you know? Cnsidering the Corsair that comes with the game is already painted the color I would, it would be a simple matter to add Pappy Boyington's arrow on the left wing.

Yeah, I saw your Russian P40 and started thinking about it, then a few days later I got the Smithsonian Air & Space Magazine with an article about how they had uncovered a couple of Lend Lease P40s in the Russian Tundra and were going to restore them. And that convinced me the rest of the way to paint one up.

As far as paints go, I use whatever I have on hand - I use a lot of Citadel Paints from Games Workshop simply because I have so much left from when I used to be big into GW games. I also sometimes use Apple Barrel paints, which I get from Wal-Mart or Michael's and are very inexpensive. Maybe not the best paint in the world, but it does fine for me - especially for scenery and other applications where I need a LOT of paint.

Hmmmm, I haven't seen the Apple Barrel brand, but I used Plaid "for Plastics" paint to do the two Air Pack minis entries at Days of Wonder. It worked really well, and I decided I'd use them for all my future minis painting.

Then, I saw a buddy of mine on the model forum (razorboy) using Plaid "Folk Art" acrylics on an Opel Blitz he was doing for a model build contest on another website, and I was incredibly impressed with the effects he managed with them...absolutely incredible and gorgeous. It convinced me to add the Folk Art bottles to my painting arsenal for modeling and minis! Also, the "for Plastics" version only has about a dozen colors; whereas, the "Folk Art" Plaids have a ton of colors, so that further convinced me! Both can be bought very inexpensively at Michael's or WalMart.

To digress a tad, I was originally shying away from these bottled acrylics based on posts from Roobarb at DoW, in which he advised to avoid the artist type acrylics for minis painting.....but figured I was safe with the "for Plastics" version, as it is supposedly made just for plastics. OK, here's the kicker: The Folk Art version works JUST AS WELL as the version that is supposedly just for plastic, so hey, I'm there!!!
