Interactive Gaming, Anyone?

I'm excited at what I'm seeing for interest in Interactive Games here at the Game Forum. Right now, we have one up and running, and it's a lot of fun. There has also been inquiries and interest expressed by several Gamers here, in threads and PMs to me, about either starting games or wanting to be in one. This could be a very exciting component to the Game Forum!

This is still, however, a rather new part of the Zone, so I wanted to first see what interest developed along these lines, and how many would actually be willing to Game Master such games. So before grand planning gets too far, lets have a quick poll:

How many would be interested in Interactive Gaming here at the Game Forum?

If you are interested in hosting a game, as the Game Master of said, that you've been interested in getting out there, let me know. The caveat here is, this has actually GOT to be a developed game that you can get folks up and running in...not made up as you go. A very good example of this would be Magna's game that he currently has up and running. If you haven't checked it out, go on over and take a peek. As Game Master, you would need to "run the show": answering questions, keeping the game moving, posting pictures of the battle map, and doing the moves as orders come in from the players. It's not a job for the timid, but it's not rocket science, either. But overall, it has to be structured...the game has to be something established...not a grand idea you hope will come together as you go.

If you're interested in playing in these type of games, but not that of a Game Master, also let me know. I want to see how many in the community would take part if we had several games going all the time.

There's a lot that can be done with this whole concept, but I think we first need to know who'd interested, both as a gamer and as a Game Master; and what you have to put out there. Let's hear from everyone on this. This could be very cool!

Re: Interactive Gaming, Anyone?

I would be interested in the Game Mastering part and the playing part (somewhat - really depends on the format). I have some ideas and can post more at a later date for those interested in what I might like to do.

Thumbs up Re: Interactive Gaming, Anyone?

W.R., need I respond to this......Ha Ha Ha

I'm up for pretty much anything and everything here related to this!!

No there I bet......

We have a good start here, and it will only get better I beleave, I think the best bet is to find an "easy" game, a "harder" or longer lasting one and one just in between these to. Some have more time and interest than others, but I bet many can go for something from one of these three at some point.

Cheers, nice thread idea sir, my hats off to you!! WR is the

NOT ROCKET SCIENCE ????

Do you know how hard it is ? Rocket science - PAH!!! Put the thing on a launch pad - light the match - make sure it isn't pointing in the direction of your house and away you go!!

Organising a game is much harder than that !!

Still, they are both fun.... I wonder if I could set this game up outside and buy some small rockets.... lufttiger could claim they were his V1 fleet......

seriously though - if you have a game you know well that takes time and is easy to administer then please have a go at hosting it. Things can only get better the more we all do.

Mumble mumble..... not rocket science.... reeeeeally.....

Wink Re: Interactive Gaming, Anyone?

Hell, I'd settle for a simple game of Battleship, if it could be done here!! Just knowing that, say on a Tuesday or Wednesday, one could check in the Game forum here and there may be "something going on" as to playing a game is a very good idea.

I know Mike (D.D.) has those two days/nights off as well as I do. That may be a good place to start. For my gaming club here, I'm creeping up on it, slowly but surely. Thsi may solve some issues for this type of things. I'm hoping for a good turnout and get everyones specific info in one place, if you join that is....

Something like

" I see lufttiger is off work on Sat and Tuesday, WOW and he does like gaming, but more casual as to "hard core", maybe I'll give him a "club message", or a PM to see if he wants to play something."

Also. I still have to talk to Jim on this, but I plan on maybe having (my club) members, maybe getting some kind of award and medal, once they join and complete a game from anyone already signed up there, be it running a game, or just playing it.

Cheers, I'm open to any and all suggestions for the club, so if you guys also have ideas, fire away here and post them!!

As the closest thing to a rocket scientist on this forum (M.S. Astrophysics, NMIMT 1990), I will agree.

That said, I'm up for gaming! "Diplomacy" is a great multiplayer game that requires a GM (Game Master) to run. Basic stuff for the GM (not volunteering as GM!) and a great game. Perfect for online purposes. 7 players as I recall and I have two copies of the game. Used to play it back in my college days...

Ohhhh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!

I digress and stand corrected...poor choice of words on my part, Mate! I quite agree with you that hosting a game is indeed a lot of work.....I can tell by what you have going on in yours.

If you're well familiar with the game mechanics of a game, playing it can be somewhat second nature, hence my thinking on the lines of "not...." (He shall not speaketh the words that shall not be spoken!). But as I can see in your current game, it is very time consuming...gathering the intel (the orders from the players), playing out the moves, keeping things on track, answering questions, taking pictures, keeping the cats off the game surface.....all time consuming and laborious to be sure. So, I stand corrected...it is a little like rocket science....but fun!

Re: Interactive Gaming, Anyone?

No actually you were right in the first place. To me it isn't rocket science at all because it is something I really enjoy. That makes it quite easy for me.

If anyone wants to have a go at naval warfare sometime I will organise that when we have the system worked out. There are two types on the go at the moment. One involves destroyers / corvettes vs. submarines and the other will be Cruiser / Battleship engagements.

We have good rule sets for other periods such as Napoleonic naval and WWI naval. I don't know if they are applicable here but they are available depending on what people want to try.

I have the next WWII scenario worked out and I think I have a way to make it easier and quicker for everyone too.

Re: Interactive Gaming, Anyone?

While Generaloberst Lufttiger and I are on the short end of the stick in the current game I'm having a good time with it and would like to see/play more.
