I saw Diplomacy might be one, but are there others you guys can think of??

Cheers, any and all thoughts and comments welcome here please.

I suggested Diplomacy in another thread, but it takes a LONG time to play. Generally two good days of fulltime (8 hours) gaming for 5+ people sitting around a table. For PBM games, even at one turn a day, it takes weeks to play.

One short and sweet game that is a blast and fun to play is the "Squad Leader Card Game". You have a deck of cards that allow actions (fire, move, conceal, terrain, etc. etc.). The cards have numbers on them which are used instead of dice.

This game can be played in an hour or two depending on game size, and while made for two players, 4 or possibly more might be able to play.

How to do this online is not clear to me.

A friend and I tried to play "Russian Front" using web cameras and such but the resolution of those cameras was not good enough to resolve the chit/map numbers. There is a VASSAL engine for Russian Front but it was still betaware when we tried our experiment so we didn't use it.

Another method we contemplated was FTP'ing high resolution picture files to/from a web site after each move. However, this can be prolematic and we never developed a system.

In any case, I'm GAME for GAMING!

Post Re: What is a basic "war/conflict" game

And the last of the ones I could write down, I think maybe this covered about 30% of the games there.......

Operation Canibil

Eastern Front Solitare, $26.00, Omega Games.

Pacific Battles, Decision Games.

Krieg, WW II in Europe, $45.00.

Europe engulfed, $85.00,GTM Gamers.
same as above but Asia engulfed.

Pacific at War, $59.00, Xenogames.

Anzio, $20.00, Avalon Hills

Bismark, $35.00, Avalon Hills

Battle of the Bulge

So, if anyone has happened to play any of these games, would you be kind enpogh to put a reply here on your general thoughts, and was it a good game to play for the price?

Cheers, next week, there may be more.......

Amazingly I have NEVER played any of those games! However, I have at least heard of a few of them. I have a vague recollection of seeing the Anzio game on a shelf somewhen. I don't have the impression that it can be played in a few hours. However, there may be some small sized scenarios involved besides the whole battle.

Wink Re: What is a basic "war/conflict" game

Thanks for the reply, I found out at the game shop, then here after from DD about a very cool site that can pretty much cover everything!!

I asked "those above" if I could put it in the link forum, or here, but for the moment it was said it needs to to go in the off topic section, I'm just not sure where yet........

Cheers, I'll post here when I find the "spot" so you guys can take a look see, if you hav'nt already seen it before somewhere.

Hunh??? You lost me Tommy...not hard to do, I'll grant you!

I heard of a lot of these games, and own quite a few. Panzer Grenadier is indeed one of the best game systems out there...kinda th new vanguard compared to the older Avalon Hill fare, with a much more easily digestable rules system. If anyone is ever actually ever interested in buying any of these...there's a way to do it to maximize you $$$-output. Contact me and I'll do my best to fill you in.
