Question What is a basic "war/conflict" game

that might be played and finished in a couple hours, or like two days max that we might be able to get here to play?
I saw Diplomacy might be one, but are there others you guys can think of??

Cheers, any and all thoughts and comments welcome here please.

Hmm..... should we let him in ? Could be mayhem and definite chaos. Ok then - those are the criteria for entry so I vote yes.

I think I may have a game that will fit too.

Re: What is a basic "war/conflict" game

I think the problem with a lot of war/conflict gams, especially WWII is most require fairly lengthy play. And a lot of them are two player. But there are a few gems out there....it's just, how to put it in a workable format. Magna really has an excellent model up and running....pictures of the battlemap to give players a reference of where things stand; general order system, but the nitty gritty (and certain decisions, even if not what the players were expecting) played out by the Game Master; players in teams...all excellent, well thought out game mechanics.

I have a couple I have in mind, but just haven't sat down long enough to work out the game mechanics...i.e., how to morph the game into an Online playable version. The one's I'm thinking about are, Memoir '44 Overlord; Axis & Allies: D-Day; and Band of Heroes. A couple others are floating around my noggin, including an incrdible Commando game and Axis & Allies Miniatures. One game that is really intriguing is an old game called Escape for Colditz. All great games...but all require time to put together. A good example of the headache involved in actually doing this kind of "Advanced Scouting and Recce" is Double Deuce's SASL game he's working on. Keep up the good work, Mate!

How 'bout a simple game of dominion? The Rock, The Paper n' the Scissors. I don't think that it could be more simple than that.

Re: What is a basic "war/conflict" game

While I am concentrating on the SASL game, I am still keeping the RPG/ASL concept alive. I don't have time to simultaneously develop both the SASL and RPG/ASL systems at the present time. I do think they are both workable in a forum environment, it will just take some creative ideas to make them manageable.

Lightbulb Re: What is a basic "war/conflict" game

I am graced with 3 game shops (kind of) in my small town I live in. There is one that has a huge selection, many from the "older period??", not to sure when they first came out.......

I will take some names of as many as I can and post them here, so you guys might take a look and give your opinions and and suggestions on ones that may suite here, as to playing some of them here at some point.

Otherwise, I am looking for more "simple" board games in general to do for a quick couple hours of play, for members that happen to have a couple hours to "kill" here at The Zone.

Cheers, to some "new" (old.....) games coming here at some point, you never know til' you try, My motto......!!! Ha Ha

Red face Re: What is a basic "war/conflict" game

Sure, just 10 minutes, pop in and pop out, three hours later.......

Just to much stuff to list, so

What I bought (as to games, Ha Ha)

Tank Commander, the players guide, a whole 6 $, and four packs of tank Commander cards for 5 $ each. A very good day for me, compared to FoW gear, to say the least!!!

Started a chat to see if Matt and Mike (then WR) had heard of this one, and maybe a test game, but it quickly became a free for all on ideas for many other games ( again Jim, you are the man for getting chat in here!!) good stuff to hopefully be seen here in the future.

I will list some of the names of the games from the hobby shop later tonight.

Cheers

Tom
