Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea
OK, more information on this.
What I am looking at is a German led mission on the Eastern Front (with possible other Axis nation support). Players can choose their actual platoon nationality from German, Romanian or Italian forces. I will determine the actual platoon OOB based on the ASL system. It is May 1943 and the front has see-sawed back and forth on the southern front. Soviet and Axis forces are scattered and intermingled due to the length of the front lines. Your unit is tasked with moving into a previously held area and clearing a village of any encountered Soviet forces. The exact makeup of the enemy force is unknown although it will be predominently infantry. This force may be anywhere from a few squads to a full battalion. ![]() The weather is Clear with a Mild Breeze. All buildings are wooden, single level structures. Here is the map for the mission. Your forces will enter from the bottom (West).

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea
Just an FYI. This mission can be revised to any front and forces. I am just throwing the East Front, German led mission as that was my initial idea. It could just as easily be converted to a West Front, joint Allied mission, say early Market Garden.

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea
This map shows "Suspected" enemy forces in the area. In the ASL system each of these "?" counters can generate an enemy unit or units when activated. They may also be nothing more than "dummy" units. You won't know until you get close enough to them to actualy see or you start receiving fire from that location.

This is going to be great Mike. I hope its as great as your naval game over on ACG. The variety of terrain and the sheer size of the map looks great by the way.

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea
Thanks. I'm hoping to get the forms set up so that it will be easier for players to submit their orders rather than trying to send them in essay format. This should allow those unfamiliar with ASL to get involved and not feel overwhelmed which can happen very quickly. The biggest obstacle for me will probably be designing a Defensive Fire form that allows players to submit orders that allows them to set some criteria for engaging moving enemy units that did not start in their filed of view/fire. I may try to set it up so they can spell out triggers such as "Engage any targets that get within x of hexes first or vehicles first" and so on. The Player Turn forms are pretty easy to set up since it will be the AI and the system that sets the criteria for that side. I may have to rely on the forums/or PM to ask players what tier orders are should a certain event come up.

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea
For those who may be interested please check these 2 forms. This is what will be used by you as a player to provide me with orders for your units. The first is for the 1/2 of the turn you are the active player (Offensive Phase) and the 2nd is for the 1/2 of the turn you are the inactive player (Defensive Phase).
PLAYER OFFENSIVE ORDER FORM PLAYER DEFENSIVE ORDER FORM Please let me know if these seem simple enough for providing me with your units intentions, targets, etc for your turn. We can tweak these as needed BUT the main goal as mentioned earlier is to "keep it simple".

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea
Although ASL is not my combat scale I think this idea will work beautifully. The confusing thing with a lot of these games is tho ordering and working out what the hell is going on. At the other forum game of ASL I have been lucky as I have TRDG as commander to show what is happening.
The web page for orders would be specific and easier to use for all players. A great idea for this game again. I think you really have something here. |
