Just use all or part of our forum profile name for the commanders. That way it's easy to keep track of who's who, and nobody has to think too hard...

e.g. Sgt. Drakk, Cpt. Saigon, Maj. TRDG, Lt. Whiterook, etc...

Good idea. I was thinking about that but wasn't sure that was the way most wanted to go. I will use that format for the counters on the map.

Maybe a FINAL cut off date on when you might want to get this game rolling maybe??
The map should be big enough, at least right now. I may reduce the Platoons to 3 squads each instead of 4 to thin things out a little (previous casualties and all ;( ). I may also group everyone into 2 Companies instead of 1 big one for easier management so players can work as teams of the bigger team.

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea

For anyone concerned about not knowing how to play ASL, don't get overly concerned. This biggest thing you will need to be able to do is send me orders on who your men are shooting and and where they are to move. the order forms I am setting up may look like detailed orders are needed BUT once we get rolling everyone will start to get the format/system down although it may take a few turns/weeks.

I have added Miss Saigon, Pirate-Drakk and LAH 1 SS to the roster. For now, we will go with 2 Companies for this to keep it organized (for me). If we can't fill the 2x 2nd Platoons that will be OK, if we CAN I will reduce Platoons to 3 squads to keep the map from getting too overcrowded

A COMPANY
HeadQuarters Platoon: TRDG (German)
Leader x1 (CO Co.), 2-4-7 x2, 1-2-7 x2, HMG x1(dm), MMG x1.

1st Platoon: Airchallenged (German)
Leader x1, 4-6-7 x4, LMG, 50mm MTR(dm), ATR

2nd Platoon: OPEN

3rd Platoon: Whiterook (Italian)
Leader x1, 3-4-7 x4, LMG

B COMPANY
HeadQuarters Platoon: Pirate-Drakk (German)
Leader x1 (CO Co.), 2-4-7 x2, 1-2-7 x2, HMG x1(dm), MMG x1.

1st Platoon: LAH 1 SS (German)
Leader x1, 4-6-7 x4, LMG, 50mm MTR(dm), ATR

2nd Platoon: Hagen (German)
Leader x1, 4-6-7 x4, LMG, 50mm MTR(dm), ATR

3rd Platoon: Miss Saigon (Italian)
Leader x1, 3-4-7 x4, LMG

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea

Oooooo, an HQ. Now I'm getting excited! I'll just have to goose step to my personal library and dig out my ASL rulebook and dust off some boxes of chits!

Arrrr! Back to the Ostfront!

I did a little poking around on the internet and found that VASL runs in the VASSAL engine which is used for a number of board games. VASSAL is just for developers, so all we need is VASL if you want to set up the game on your comp. Maybe DD can email out the files to use or put them somewhere for downloading. Of course, then we might be able to cheat or something. I haven't actually installed VASL yet...

VASL - Play Advanced Squad Leader over the Internet!

I hear the sounds of battle in the distance!

Probably not, because at certain points of the game, actual enemy units will be on the map but will be hidden/concealed from player view which means players will not know exactly what is there until they get visuals or are fired on. ;(

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea

FYI, I will closing signups in the next day or so. If anyone else still wants in please speak up. If I get 2 more players then I will cut the # of squads in the line platoons from 4 to 3 to keep the map from getting overly crowded.

I will also be starting up a new thread in the The Game Den soon where we will start up rules and deployment discussions and getting the 1st turn rolling.

Re: SASL (Solitaire ASL) Game Idea

For those involved, here are the entry areas for the 2 companies. A Company (Cpt. TRDG) will enter on the left flank and B Company (Cpt. Pirate-Drakk) on the right.
