Hearts of Iron series for PC

Does anyone play the Hearts of Iron series released on PC by Paradox?

It's a strategy real-time game set during World War II and you can play any of the world's nations - from USA and Germany right down to small countries like Luxembourg and Albania.

I spend hours on this game. You can play the entire period from 1936-1953, or choose to play individual scenarios such as D-Day or Barbarossa.

You can research technology and build rockets and eventually atomic bombs.

If anyone wants to know more I can post some screenshots tomorrow.

I have HOI 1, HOI 2, and HOI 2 Doomsday. Great game! A friend and I play online together (while on the phone) and one of our greatest scenarios was playing Yugoslavia and Turkey. We had to do it at the "max easiest" setting but we conquered the world! Was a blast.

Three of us played the Axis powers Germany, Italy, and Japan once but our coordinated efforts crushed the computer at normal level.

The AI is OK, but not inspired. However, we have never gotten the nerve to play Poland. However, my bud did play Communist China once and managed to kick butt at the easiest level.

Most the play balance is just faster production and better combat odds. The AI has the same brain no matter what.

It a VERY COMPLEX game but worth the learning curve. Expect the full game to take weeks/months....

I was severely addicted to the Mod 34 mod. Then I went on the road and don't have the time for 8-10 hrs marathon sessions of HOI. Great game though and I just installed it on my laptop. There are many great mods out for it that really change the game for the better. You can find them here:

I like the fact that you're not restricted to just the big guys...what a blast to play the other combatants! I'd love to see screen shots of the game! Maybe even do a game review in the Community Review sub-forum???
