Talking German Skicaps...

This may sound like a faintly dim question, but as I'm a faintly dim person that's probably understandable.

I've just got myself a Panzer Crewman's M43 skicap, and one thing that's always puzzled me is what the point of the buttons on the front are. They seem to connect two pieces of cloth that run around the sides of the cap, but as far as I can work out, if you undo them, you just end up with a fairly useless bit of cloth around your ears.

Was this actually designed to create an additional layer of warmth for winter conditions, or was it just fancy design?

Cheers,

-SC

Re: German Skicaps...

You got a picture of that cap? That could help.

I believe the original thought process was ear flaps. Not necessarily really warm, but they'd keep the wind off your ears.

Re: German Skicaps...

Didn't they were in HJ similar caps? My Grandfather has got on of those (HJ) at home. But he said pretty the same thing as Tom.

Re: German Skicaps...

Thanks for that guys, I thought that's what it was.

Klaus, I'm pretty sure the M43 skicap was the same as that issued to HJ units.

Thanks again,

-SC
