Stalingrad Diorama
WWII Stalingrad 1942 - a photoset on Flickr
A Stalingrad Diorama that somebody in my re-enactment unit posted on our forums. I have three buffs with it and one piece of praise but I will leave them unsaid until everyone else chimes in. |

Re: Stalingrad Diorama
Only a couple of things that jump out:
1-No Tigers in Stalingrad 2-No clear cut lines in House to House. It looks like Soviets on one side and Germans on the other when it would of been mixed up with both forces in each house in front of -beside- to the rear of each others forces. Other than that, a very good looking diorama. Looks like a bit of time went into it for sure. Whoever did the scene tell them good job.

Re: Stalingrad Diorama
He put a lot of work into it, that's for certain. But, to go with Dan's thought, he didn't do enough research into the battle. From what I've read, there weren't many scrums with so many disparate elements in that small space.
My biggest issue I guess is that it almost looks like he just tried to get as many different pieces of equipment and other elements inside it as he could. No planning as to flow, and movement, if you consider a dio like a 3D snapshot, or a frame from a movie reel. Know what I mean?

Re: Stalingrad Diorama
I got a few problems with it.....too much Blood fer starters.... It looks like a model store exploded! Too much crammed into one Dio.....And alot of the figs dont strike me as correct.......And There were No Tigers or StuG IV H's in Stalingrad..And the T-34 was WAY outta timeframe.....I chime in with the others....do some research before planning a giant masterpiece like this.....Look at photos of the fight....These Germans are just to "Fit and well uniformed" to be in Der Kessel, in the winter time....
Wonderful Idea, and the groundwork is smashing.....but too much going on! Too many aspects of the frontline crammed onto one board! (You couldn't swing a dead Plastic 1/35th scale cat, with out hitting a fig or vehicle in that Dio!)

See there's this house I want to build in Paris, and it needs lotsa cats, according to the very little research I've done... ![]()

Re: Stalingrad Diorama
Yup. Mine were:
1. Anachronisms (The Tiger stuck out to me) 2. The Blood (it would soak into the uniform before pooling in bright red pools on the clothes) 3. The cleanliness of vehicles from the upper chassis up and figures (they aren't weathered or worn in to show fading nor shadows/highlights) My Praise? He does awesome terrain work! Its really good and the snow feels real.

Re: Stalingrad Diorama
The snow 'feels' real?! Does he do any scratch and sniff work too?
Looks amazing despite what you guys have mentioned but it's too much for me. I went cross-eyed looking at it.
