You can get prefab buildings from a variety of manufacturers for a variety of periods. They stick out a mile if you've seen a couple done before. If I was a diorama builder, I'd probably take the time to learn how to make my own, that way, I would have something unique each time. It also allows you to make the scenery to 'fit' with the model rather than the other way around.

I agree with the scratchbuilt theory! I feel the model railroading scenery can stick out like a sore thumb, as well, and would prefer scratchbuilding in that arena, as well.
Man, if my wife saw my work area look like that, I'd be sleeping on the couch for a year!
