"Abandon ship!" by Jonas Dahlberg

Here you have the latest installment in the ongoin' story of Jonas Dahlbergs fantastic builds.

U.S.S. Little sailed for Okinawa 27 March assigned to the demonstration group charged with feigning landings opposite the actual assault beaches. After accomplishing this diversion 1 and 2 April, Little screened transports and escorted LSTs to the beaches.
On 3 May Little and Aaron Ward (DM-34) were again on picket duty. At 1813 18 to 24 aircraft attacked from under cloud cover. Aaron Ward took the first hit at 1841. An instant later Little was hit on the portside. Within 4 minutes three more enemy kamikazes had hit her, breaking her keel, demolishing the amidship section, and opening all three after machinery spaces, At 1955 Little broke up and went down.

"Abandon ship!"
The sinking of U.S.S. Little. DD-803. May 3. 1945. Okinawa.

by Jonas Dahlberg

Great stuff McCoy. I like the detail of the dorsal fins of the sharks heading in. Many men were lost waiting for rescue in the waters of the Pacific theater from sharks.

No, I don't think that it took so long for Jonas to do this. I've had the priviledge of followin' more than a few of his previous builds n' even comment on 'em. There's a great thing 'bout Jonas as a builder. He's not a builder who sets out on a mission in a slow movin' oiltanker but he's mission isn't forged in iron 'cos he listen to each comment n' follow up on 'em with an incredible speed. One praise that I've seen him get was that allthough he's an incredibel builder now, he would become even more so if he didn't build so fast.

Re: "Abandon ship!" by Jonas Dahlberg

He walks a fine line then. I'm a very slow and deliberate builder but it means I only finish three or four kits in a year. The downside is that my appetite for kits and the plans I make in my head far outweigh what I actually do. The good side is that a $40 kit keeps me interested for a long time and the hobby becomes quite cheap for me.
I like this diorama and the tiny PE people. Again, I'd like to see it in 1/350.

Well, that lightens my heart a bit, G44...I thought I was the only one who planned things out to the Nth degree......Excellent Mate!

On the dio, I like it a lot, but I think he could have achieved more realism with gel, rather than glass.

Re: "Abandon ship!" by Jonas Dahlberg

Yeah mate, I'm one of those guys who when not actually modelling, is thinking about modelling. I've really only been 'back in the hobby' for the last six or so years. I think I've finished maybe fifteen kits. I have a couple started but put away and some I'll never finish but they're in the spares box. Not much output but plenty of thinking and planning. Inheriting some money and tools in 2006 was a real shot in the arm for my hobby. Besides, I like to potter and take my time.

Nothing wrong with slow and methodical...honestly. I have one oil painting (sea scape of a whale crushing a whaling party, that's been not quite there for 26 years! YIKES. Will it ever be finished? Doubt it seriously, Mate. Started as a present for an old girlfriend gone bad, and the damned thing's been Hexed since! (The pianting, not the girlfriend.)

Re: "Abandon ship!" by Jonas Dahlberg

I'm the same except I can usually accept (after a while) that I won't be finishing something before the 26 year mark. I either scrap the kit or paint over the canvas.
