Dear Mom by Jonas Dahlberg

The 22nd of June 1941 the German army invaded the Soviet union in Operation Barbarossa.. This diorama shows a knocked out T-28 somewhere in the Ukraine in late July. One soldier is writing to his mom while his comrade keeps watch. Wounded soldiers are carried past him and the sound of battle a couple of kilometres away are evident. Resting against the turret of a blown T-28 he finds a paper and a pen and as any son he doesn’t want to make his mom worried. He writes: ”Dear Mom. Don´t worry. I have not seen much action yet….”

The base is scratch built from foam board, wood, Cellu clay. The tank is Alanger´s T-28 with PE set from Eduard. The gun barrel was replaced with styrene tubing. The broken mud guards are ustom made with alu foil and plasticard rivets. Interior of tank and turrets are almost completely scratch built. Stowage bins are modified with aluminium foil. The towing cable is replaced with a copper chain. The figure is Dragon Anti-tank Infantry 1941, Legends “Dear Mom”. Some accessories such as the machine gun from Zvesda Russian Infantry. Trees are roots, rubberized horsehair, moss and various Woodland Scenics scatter as well as ground up leafs. Flower foliage is from the Model Garden kit and stems are from nature.
The whole diorama including the tank is finished in Tamiya acrylics with an Evolution Airbrush. Weathering with acrylics, oils, MIG pigments.

Great work all around. I especially like the attention to detail on the foliage.

What a sweet looking diorama! I can't even imagine having this kind of time on my hands to produce such a work of Art...perhaps in the future. I especially like the bent roadwheel...that must have taken some doing; and it's amazing the figures available...the tunic folded on the turret is amazing.

That is one of his best for sure. A fine piece of work and a real atmosphere to it.

Re: Dear Mom by Jonas Dahlberg

I remember reading that it should be used as dry as possible so that moisture does't escape into the base to warp it.
