I ordered it. And some other stuff, too.

Anybody need a Tamiya 88?

I seem to recall somebody making a figure set of frogment/scuba divers. Am I losing my mind? I've tried searching with several variations of the theme, and I can't find anything. Does anyone know of a kit like this? I actually want to do modern sport divers off the LCVP I have, but I want to use this (imagined?) old kit as a basis for some of the gear.

Also, isn't there a special figure made to put in the seat of the 20mm Flak gun? I think somebody did a figure for that, but I can't recall.

Any pointers?
Frogment...is that what they do to bad Frogment? Put their fliippers in cement and toss 'em in?? Seriously, that looks like an interesting kit...glad you found it. Make sure to post pics when you start!

Which Tamiya 88 is it? The old one that includes the transport bogies or the new one that doesn't?

It looks like the older one. For what I'd like to do with 2 of 'em (Nord, near Rovaniemi, DAK), either would work. I'll let you know when I get them in hand.

Re: Old kit help?

The older one includes the transport bogies and also has a length of black plastic tubing...I forget what for. I seem to remember that it included vinyl tyres for the wheels. The newer one contains a few of the 'old' sprues spiced up with a new set of Luftwaffe crew figures and ammo baskets. They might even be a couple of turned brass rounds...I'll have to check (I've got one). Both kits include the Zündapp motorcycle but oddly, half the crew in the new kit is wearing short pants with sleeves rolled up and the motorcycle rider is wearing a greatcoat. If I'd had the choice, I'd have bought the old kit. The new one isn't a whole lot better and the omission of the transport bogies is a big mistake in my opinion. It looks like a rush job. Trying to upgrade old kits on the cheap to compete with Dragon. But I'm being picky...it's still a good kit that might find its way onto my bench sooner rather than later.

I Agree Nick......I saw one online and it looks real shoddy. Those old vinyl tubes used to roll up on the transport bogies....I beleive it was supposed to be the cable that lowered the gun off the Transport bogies???

Anyone remember the Deluxe 88 set Tamiya put out back in the 70's? The one that had the 88 and bogies, 88 crew, Zündapp and rider(standing, in greatcoat) Sdkfz 7 with driver, co-driver and about 8 very stiff passengers?
I got it for Christmas in 1978 and it took me the rest of the winter to build all that stuff! I even Motorized the Sdkfz 7 (It came with motor and all the running gear was funtional, even the steering wheel turned in the one I did...after I jury rigged it to do so!) That kit was Tamiya crown jewel for a while....wish I still had it......(My mom knocked the entire set up off my shelf while cleaning...I was able to repair the gun and bogies......but the 1/2 track didnt fair so well)

Hey I remember getting one of those as a kid.

IIRC the "ride-on" torpedo I had was a bath/swimming pool/garden pond type of toy and its propeller was driven by a small electric motor that ran on one or two "AA" batteries.

Is that the one you too had?

Cheers,
Dave
