Shige's Latest

Here's the lastest work by Shige...and here's where my lack of knowledge regarding armour comes to the fore too. I think this is an StuH42. Sturmhaubitze is a self propelled assault gun. I do know that this vehicle is carrying skirts taken from a Panther to cover the superstructure. Not also the scalloped skirts covering the running gear and also the simplified method of attachment using split-pins. Each plate was able to swing independent of the others. I love this vehicle and will build at least one before I die.
Apologies if any of this info is wrong.

The size of that tube looks like a StuH, sans muzzle brake.

The netting looks like rumpled string...I wonder what he used? I have to adnit, tracks are totally out of my scope of competence at the present. I can't even im agine getting that close to a look of realism anytime soon!!!

Re: Shige's Latest

The netting is possibly what others commonly use. I think it's gauze bandage that's been 'un-picked' or 'loosened up' a little. Gauze is a pretty coarse weave to begin with. One could go further and add small strips of painted tape to simulate the fabric strips one sometimes sees too. As for the tracks, the do look good don't they? I think one of the major paint manufacturers makes a colour they call 'Track Colour' (original huh?). I've seen it used in magazines and with appropriate weathering it looks pretty good. When the time comes (soon) I will weather my tracks exactly the same way as the rest of the vehicle. The only difference is that the tracks are the only area that will show naked metal. That raises the concern that metal is easy to do but it can't be too 'bright'. Tracks weren't made of chrome after all.

Re: Shige's Latest

Hmmmm, gauze! I never thought of loosening up the threads for that effect. Great tip!

Re: Shige's Latest

You can allways glue herbs n' such onto the gauze in order to make it even more like a real camouflage net.

Re: Shige's Latest

Anything 'leafy' would do. Birch seeds are good as well.

Re: Shige's Latest

Now that's it's Spring here, and stuff is a bloomin', I'll be checking twigs and stuff for possible diorama use. I've a small plastic snack bagie (like a hald sized zip sandwich bag), that I've been collecting rocks and pebbel in...pick them up in the parking lots and such, and stuff 'em in my pockets! I really have the folks at work talking as I walk in, in the morning!

You've become a modelling magpie mate...it's normal.
Kitty-Litter makes good rocks in 1/35.
