Actually, if we can take the vets' accounts as true and unembellished, that was actualy what happened. Either by luck or by skill, Easy was able to mow down the Waffen-SS troops with ease.

I don't believe vets of Easy would embellish in that direction. It's in human nature to describe things more difficult than they really were, not the other way around.

Not only that, but the vets I've talked to are more apt to downplay any killing. So, from that angle, the reality might have been worse than what was portrayed in the film!

Hi Klaus!

"Tiger thing" is also common in serious historical books, veterans relations and even museums exhibits.

My dad was a tanker and I know that for him Pz-IV was a Tiger... Hey, let's not blame them fellows, which barely could see anything after drinking Italian plonks in such quantities...
TRUST ME! I HEARD IT FROM MY OWN DAD!

There is well known book written by colonel Przymanowski in Poland, about battle of Hermann Goering Division units with Polish Westerplatte Tank Brigade at Vistula river bridgehead....All bull... There was no one Tiger in the area... But legends die hard...

Also, "Hermann Goering". Division is often mentioned as SS Hermann Goering,
Nothing more wrong!

Cheers,

Spinechicken, as much as it troubles me to say this, methinks that is something we need to somehow learn to live with. While it may not have been accurately placed in that battle, it was probably the only "runner" they could find! Give them at least some credit for substituting a German vehicle, rather than a repainted modern AFV.
I know, I know, I couldn't help it, but they did have a StuG III there that looked pretty good, surely they could've digitised a second one? That being said, if you didn't look at the running gear, that JP was pretty impressive, I agree.

I'm not sure if it's because of fear, respect, or confusion, but any artillery barrage was fired by 88s, and every armored vehicle was a Tiger! So, it's not just the films!
Part of the reason for this - in armour terms - was that virtually all German tank and anti-tank weapons could penetrate Allied armour so easily that, naturally, most tankers thought it they were being hit by 88s! If your mates are getting killed you haven't got time to double-check what's killing them.

However the book is better. Trust me, get the book.
Always the case, HvM, always the case.

Re: Band of Brothers

I don't know one tank from another, but my son and I loved BoB long before my husband and his friends did. I loved the way the relationships were fleshed out, I felt like I knew these men. That's rare in war films. After I bought the series my husband started to appreciate the stories more and became a fan, also. We just watched the first four episodes again yesterday.

I should rewatch it again, can't wait for the Pacific version to come out.

Bandwagon of Brothers as its known in the re-enacting world

Great series... but it just inspired way too many people to get into the hobby (good) but they all want to be E, 2/506th, 101st! (BAD!) I guess in some places there were tons of 101ers... and barely any Germans... Easy COmpany needs Germans to fight...

Post Re: Band of Brothers

Mezmorized by it at the first viewing, as well as the last, about 6 months ago. The best I have enjoyed to date, besides Saving Privat Ryan. I just wish they had more armour shots in the battles, especially in the bulge battles later on, as well as in Normandy and Holland. Now that would have made a erfect movie for me.

The review one the first page link, that was way to picky for me. I understand and resept his research on the events and getting to know the actual people, but it reads somewhat like "why did'nt they consult ME" a bit to much, coming in a little to high handed for my tastes at least.

Cheers, love the movie regardless of the historical problems in it.

Tom

The SS issue Camo Smocks probably threw them off. HG was pretty bad-assed .... for a LW unit.

In effect, Tom, that's what it was. He and I have discussed it. He personally knows many of the people that were involved in the making of the film. He knows most of the veterans. Had some of those people given him a simple phone call or two, or stopped by his basement, he could have squared away a lot of the minor errors in the film. Not that they really took away from the film, but there were so many little glitches that would have been quite simple to change from the start.
